INDIAN TRADITIONAL TEXTILES USES VARIOUS SPECIALIZED WORK FORMS ON TEXTILES FOR AMAZING EFFECTS ON FABRICS. SOME OF THEM ARE: WOOD BLOCK PRINTING -'A method of patterning the surface of a fabric with dye transferred through pressure from a carved wooden block. HAND SCREEN PRINTING -A method of transferring a design onto a fabric by squeezing dyes through a mesh screen placed on the surface of the fabric. MUD-RESIST PRINTING (MUD BATIK) -A method of covering or impregnating certain portions of the fabric which are to be kept in the background colour with mud so that when the cloth is subsequently dyed the colour does not penetrate the mud-resisted portions. GLITTER PRINTING -A method of printing patterns with sticky gum and sprinkling coloured metallic dust on it. TIE DYE -A method of textile dyeing in which the fabric is pleated, twisted or folded at carefully selected points; tied or sewn in place and dyed. The tied or sewn areas remain undyed creating patterns. ZARDOSI - A method of doing hand-embroidery with metallic spring wire. HAND QUILTING -A method of sewing together two or more layers of fabric. In the process, the stitching produces the pattern. APPLIQUE -A method of applying cut out patterns of fabric onto a ground fabric using either plain or embroidery stitches. PATCHWORK - A method of sewing together pieces of cloth differing in colour and shapes to form a design. EMBROIDERY -A method of embellishing a fabric with decorative stitches by using needle and thread.
